I think I hit a nerve...

There is a certain lawyer who writes a blog. Apparently this “lawyer” thinks he is God’s voice to the practice of law and some kind of “Hearst of the Blogosphere”. This “Blog Diva” has been spewing venom my way, and the gist of his blog is that “non-lawyers” like myself should not be writing about “his profession”. I am not to utter another negative word or else this “lawyer” will create a special blog website just to “shred” my thoughts and ideas.

Well then. I haven’t been writing about “his” profession. I have been writing about “our” system of delivering legal services in “our” society, and my background more than qualifies me for that subject. The fact that “his” profession is wrapped up in “our” access to the third branch of “our” government is little more than a speed bump in this “lawyers” drive to attack “non-lawyer” me.

Nobody is forced to read this blog, or consider it at all. I regret this “lawyer” is not counted among my readers; Ladies and Gentlemen, who understand how to agree and disagree without being disagreeable. Mine is only one view and I seek other views. But not emotionally charged personal attacks. There is room in the world for “non-lawyers” to express thoughts and ideas and these have value. The opinions of a “legal Muggle” such as myself with two decades of experience managing law firms are not without merit. My blog is an earnest attempt to examine the nature of the delivery of legal services in our society. It is meant to be thought provoking, it is an experiment, it is shaped and evolves in the honest light of day.

Since I don’t like to blog about blogging, and I hope to refrain from it for a long time to come, I would like to take a moment to thank my four readers. Pardon if I abstain from thanking my fifth reader for obvious reasons. You have been very supportive and I am deeply grateful.

Cheers

Jonathan,

I am once again taken back with your rhetoric. I know you are an intelligent man, I read your posts. And yes you read mine. Not sure why you have blinders on when it comes to non-lawyer blogs. You wrote:

“And for those of you non-lawyers (you know who you are), stop being negative about my profession. Here's my offer: you be quiet about how bad the law and practicing law is and I won't create a new blog dedicated solely to ripping your ideas to shreds. Deal?”

I accept that you say you were not speaking of this blog. But what makes you think that makes any difference? I am a non-lawyer and your attack, albeit not focused on this blog, was upon “you non-lawyers” plural. You are the one creating this “cast system”. And questioning my masculinity, like some school yard bully, is just juvenile. As if you were on high ground with “(you know who you are)” Jonathan, instead of shooting off silly blog comments on a Sunday; pray on it.

Lord, make us instruments
of your peace.
Where there is hatred
let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, union;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that we may not
so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood
as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving
that we receive;
It is in pardoning
that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life. Amen
